Good summary.
Its interesting to read the comments section. Some people just can't handle the truth. They just can't. I'm the son of an abusive alcoholic. Alcohol didn't destroy my father no more than the assault rifle killed all those people in Florida. My father ruined his marriage and abused my mother... abandoned his children and ruined his own life.
We are the sum of our choices. The greatest "cop-out" in this world is....
I can't be any different. I am who I am.
People that say that.... don't realize they are the problem.
Our biggest problem are PEOPLE....

well........ not saying it;s a sin or anything..... coz it;s definitely not unless your purpose is to get drunk and lose your inhibitions...... .and though i never drink alcohol myself i don;t even see use of it as creating a bad testimony ... when you consider some of the things professing christians do that are much much worse..... ..... but there is this....... .

i remember we discussed this before and i wrote back then that alcohol was associated with various cancers.... even when used moderately..... but now there is considerably more research being done on that...... and the findings are not good...... .....of course most people will say that everything in this day and time causes cancer and that a person just has to weight out the risks versus benefits for themselves....... and for the most part they are correct....... though i know it would be a big mistake for me to drink ... for a number of reasons..... i don;t lecture my friends or family members who drink occasionally ..... and i have no problem with being around them when they are enjoying alcohol either........ but i do draw the line when on occasion one of my friends or acquaintances i;m out with insists i should partake of it too and drink with them......... ....... there have been a few times when they acted as if they were offended that i would not take a drink with with them or even try of sip of what they were having............... ..... from where i stand i believe christians should have a big problem with that kind of approach to being fine with alcohol........... ... just because something is good for us doesn;t mean it;s also good for everybody else......... and we should;t judge them for choosing to abstain....or get upset with them when they do......

I don't trust ANY study that links ANYTHING natural (like alcohol) to cancer. Chemicals? Yes. Chemical by-products of producing something like some liquors? Yes. Cigarettes, which contain hundreds of added chemicals to alter the flavor and burn rate? Yes. Margarine (fake butter that's nearly plastic)? Yes. Artificial sweeteners like Nutrasweet? Yes. And so on.
Yes, it's possible that something natural could cause cancer, but that's usually linked to over-indulgence, or a bad combination of two or more natural things. For example, the combination of tofu and spinach can lead to gall stones, which left untreated could cause cancer. But that's get filed under "chemical by-products" since it's not the tofu or spinach that causes the problem. It's the interaction of the two.
