Thai eggplants are usually purple or green, small and round, smaller even than a tomato (but not as small as a cherry tomato).
I just bought a jar of spicy Thai pickled eggplants and tried them. They're very delicious and very crunchy! The eggplants in the jar are smaller than the ones in the produce section; about twice the size of a cherry tomato.
Highly recommended, anyway, if you're into that sort of thing.
The jar I bought is actually labeled in Vietnamese, and it's either packed or imported in California. Nevertheless, I'm pretty sure it's a Thai thing.
