I learned recently that Joe Combs died on November 27, 2015. Two obituaries do not mention his imprisonment, and I do not know if he was released before his death.
I have learned that when something complicated happens, there is usually more than one reason. So here is a partial explanation of what happened: Joe definitely had the gift of teaching. While other teachers wasted our time with chapter divisions, Joe actually taught Scripture. And while everyone else taught the same few doctrines over and over, Joe taught things that none of us had ever heard before.
Is there anyone here who actually took classes from Joe and would like to comment?
I never took a class from Joe Combs,
I heard all I wanted to hear from that lisping self absorbed bag of wind while sitting in Chapel.
The first message I ever heard him deliver in Chapel involved a story about how he used his driving time as prayer time. In the story he recounted how he would become impatient with his wife any time he was driving her somewhere. And how he couldn't wait for her get out of the car so he could be alone.
It wasn't just the story, it was the way he told it.
Anyway, that was enough for me. I really don't care how enamored other students were with his so called teaching ability. He didn't follow any of the principles in the Bible he claimed to teach. In fact, from the way he lived you will be hard pressed to present evidence he even believed it.
Had it not been for Hyles and his joining the Hyles Anderson staff, Joe Combs would have probably been mopping the floors of state institutions long before he was ever sentenced to one. In the end he joined a long list of others who stand as the personification of everything wrong with the Hyles-Anderson / FBCH cult
I know that this is coming really late, but Joe Combs did die in prison right where he belonged.

I Graduated HAC and Bro Hyles was not only my pastor but a friend. While at HAC, I took Joe Combs' classes having been a pastor already. Joe was a fine Bible teacher and most of the student body loved him. The trouble happened after I left to go back to the pastorate. I Heard about it on the news but the the MSM where Baptist preachers and Believers are concerned , were not friendly. I didn't believe then, and don't now all that was said about him. I wouldn't believe the MSM about you either. I remember him telling a small group of former pastors he had a troubled child. As I said, the MSM and the judicial sytme is not friendly toward the redeemed. We could get 10 yers for picking our nose! The Pedos and traffickers get slapped on the wrist by corrupt judges. There is know way in Bro Combs case, the punishment fit the alleged crime. By the way, there were some punks in school who witnessed nothing but ganged up on every Believer that stubbed his toe. No doubt there were satanic infiltrators in all the Bible =-teaching colleges - some student, some on staff! Rest assured, we will all answer for our own works!
