Do anything for God unless someone else is watching.....
We often forget, God is ALWAYS watching.
If people could really grasp what this means..... I think a very large portion of visible Christian worship and service would change.
The other side of that coin is:
"Make sure someone else is watching" when you do something for God. And if they weren't watching, "be sure and tell them about it".
I look at that as "verily, they have their reward". But I believe it is better to "not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing".
I know, I know, both the verses I have paraphrased deal with alms giving, but I believe the principle is valid when doing "God's work". If you are doing it IN the sight of men, FOR the sight of men, you are doing it for the wrong reason. And you won't get the reward you expected. Your reward will be earthly, given by men...when the goal should be a Heavenly reward, given by God.
well... this will be a can of worms for some..... mostly those on other forums.... ... but this is why i find contemporary christian music... and especially the way it;s performed in church.. so distasteful..... ....the words they sing make it sound as if they are doing it all for God.... .. but everything else about their performance from the spotlight.... through the delivery of the song itself..... to their actions on stage.... prancing around with a microphone stuck in their face in a manner no different than a rock star....... and even the way other christians fawn over them after the show.. and line up in the foyer after church to buy their cds, says that in truth it;s all about them..... at best God gets a small part in there somewhere.....
