I must admit. Its hard for me to deal with arrogant people. I might let a situation go a time or two, but I usually push back rather quickly. Sometimes I wish that I could let "it go" more quickly. More easily....

I've just found it VERY hard to do so.

I know some people would say that I'm arrogant about certain things.....

I don't really think I have a sense of "importance" about me. I am very opinionated but it has very little to do with my "self importance". I realized a long time ago that most people just don't care enough about another human being to gather much of any importance from them.

I don't try to show how I'm more important than anyone else.....

I guess I do want/do feel equal to anyone else in importance..... as such I don't want anyone else projecting their importance OVER me.....

I know humility is important but I believe people have gotten humility wrong.

Humility doesn't mean you just let someone "run over you".....

What does "humility" and "arrogance" mean to you?
humility is teachable.... and always looking for a way to learn even though he or she might actually be the most knowledgable person in a group or given situation....... ...... arrogance cannot fathom the possibility it could ever be wrong.... even though evidence could be abundant that others in the group or at that time, have greater knowledge and more experience.....

but both those definitions depend on the person that exhibits them also having the power to exert influence...shout down others....  or voluntary relinguish the floor to another and hear what they have to say.....even though he believes he may by right.... .

the humble person that has no choice but to be humble and not free to speak his mind, might not actually be humble at all... ..... and when released to have his way or speak that mind, might unleash a pent up arrogance he has kept under suppression for a long time..... and multiplied by a resentment he might have fed for being forced to supress it......

and at times those coming off as arrogant might not actually be.... circumstances could exist... (such as a life threatening emergency etc).... where the person sounding arrogant really does know what is needed to save a persons life...... where time is short....  and where the luxury of entertaining counter arguments does not exist......

i guess you say both qualities are relevent to the people involved and the situation at hand.......
Arrogance is born of excessive self esteem. A close cousin of Narcissism.

Unlike humility, which is displayed when we have a real and accurate understanding of ourselves, and realize we are no better or worse than anybody else - the Arrogant often have no concept of what they are really like, or how they come across to other people.

And I agree with you. Having humility does not mean we allow others to run all over us.   It is possible to be very humble and yet at the same time effectively stand your ground.

But that being said, I do my best to have as few dealings as possible with arrogant people.  If I could I would have no dealings with them at all.  They are a drain on the spirit of everyone around them.

And arrogant people do not effectively stand their ground, though in their own mind they are thoroughly convinced they do.  And when it's all over and they have lost their case, or have been proven wrong, they become vicious and attempt to spread the blame around to everyone else.  Or they go on a campaign of character assassination against the person they were at odds with, and could not force into submission. Never once having the integrity or the honesty, to admit they were wrong.

But the ironic thing is that the truly arrogant, when deep in their arrogant zone, will label all others who disagree with them as arrogant. Even those that are known for being humble and are simply trying to state their case from a set of facts they have seen proven, or are otherwise certain of.

The arrogant are masters at projection. And to argue with them is futile, while giving in and going along just to get along, can lead you into error, unnecessary heartache, or, at the very worst... disaster.

In the end, arrogant people are best avoided whenever possible. Like the plague that they are.
