"nock.. draw... loose!.."...... - aleshanee - 09-13-2021

there is no evidence in the historical record that any such command was ever given to
archers in combat at any time in history.... .if you have ever drawn and shot a traditional
bow powerful enough to be effective in warfare, then you know why the whole "nock..
draw.. hold... loose.." scene,.. ...(made popular by the movies)... is nothing but fantasy..
and not even based on ancient or classic mythology .. .. it;s an image totally invented by
hollywood in the 20th century for nothing more than dramatic effect.... and never
occurred in any real battle... or even archery practice prior to hollywood....

but i suppose it;s useful if you want to video what being downrange with a volley of
arrows coming at you looks like... you only have a small handful of archers... and
none of them can hit the target consistently enough to keep the desired "rain of
arrows" effect, coming into the camera without some kind of command being given
to make certain they all shoot together... hoping a few of them will hit the target at the
same time.... and he did make that point clear in the video.....

it could be that i simply missed another example of where combat archery was portrayed
correctly.... ...but in all the productions of both television and hollywood that i personally
have seen
.. this is the only
episode, of the only series ever,.. that showed instinctive
combat archery being taught the correct way....

sadly... all other episodes in this same award winning hbo production got it wrong.... and
from what i was told, they got it wrong on purpose.... ...not because they didn;t know any
better.... but because the wrong way shown in so many movies and tv, is what audiences
have to come to expect... and... due to it;s dramatic effect... actually prefer to see....

but anyway.... here it is shown taught correctly to arya, after she does it wrong, although
not horribly wrong, or ineffective... the first time...... ....

warning... there are a few words in this some will find offensive... .but only a few....

reminds me of someone i know very well.... who has also been shooting a long bow for
over 50 years.... and who shoots one almost exatly like that one in the video..... roughly
90 to 100 pound draw weight.... (to the ear lobe)..... 110 pounds when drawn to the right
shoulder... (or 36 inches)... as was the correct manner for shooting an english war/artillery
bow back in the day when the longbow and english bowmen ruled the battlefield....

i can;t even string my dads longbow..... ..... not even with a stringer and standing on a box...
but i don;t feel too bad about that.... coz nobody else can either... not even men half his age....

what kevin hicks is teaching in this video is exactly the way my dad taught me to shoot
and also how maintain a bow...and also how to repair arrows.... ...it;s a very short video
but it is some of the best advice on longbow archery i have ever seen.... ..
