..... beyond medications - exercise .... drinking plenty of water.... and trading the high glycemic carbohydrates for the healthier ones lower on the glycemic index are great things that can reduce your a1-c .... and in my dads case he was completely off medications within a year of developing diabetes just by following a strict regimen of exercise ..hydration and diet alone.... (until an injury curtailed his physical activity)..... now that he;s retired he is working on reducing or even getting off the meds again.... but it;s hard work once you get behind and the a1-c elevates again.... .... ...... although i was always physically active my eating habits were horrible until his diagnosis served as a wake up call for me..... ... i started eating healthier along with him back when he first was diagnosed.... ... but unfortunately i love good food too much to go totally austere when it comes to diet..... so i try to stay extra active to try and make up the difference and hold it off as long as possible.... .... it seems to work.... so far...... .... but i;m hispanic and navajo so fatness is definitely in my genetics and also in my future... you can;t outrun your dna forever.....but you can work to curb the bad effects of it.....
