Church and Marketing!

Well... this might hurt a little.
I must admit. I grow increasingly bothered with the average marketing campaign at the average local church. I just can't help it. Maybe I'm being nitpicky.....
but bothers me when you have dozens of churches in your average community... "competing" over the same people. It does. I see it all the time.
"Our church" is so loving. So caring. So much better than all those other churches....
Well... they might not say "So much better than all those other churches"... that might be too much for them to come right out and say it.... but that's what they're implying.
I have several friends that do this.... I just can't stand it.
Are we really at a place we have to do such things?????????
My number one problem with this is this.... (and its enough to want to stop doing it)......
You're placing yourself in the position of Christ Jesus.
You are. I tell people they need Christ. I don't tell people they need my church. I tell people Christ can help them.... NOT my church is the best place to find help!!!!
Geesh.... and we wonder why people are so focused on things other than Jesus Christ!!! I saw a van several years ago promoting "The Light"...... but you guessed it. It didn't have much of anything to do with a "The Light of the world". It had everything to do with a marketing campaign.....
What do you think?
