  When I was a young "baptist", I was taught that tongue talkers were silly.... even potentially possessed. I finally realized that Baptist had as many or more problems as most any "tongue talking" denomination!!!
  
  I'm convinced that the vast majority of "tongue talking" is nothing more than someone trying to appear spiritual. I honestly believe that. Not that I don't believe its possible. God can do as He pleases. That doesn't mean everyone who's trying to speak in tongues is actually succeeding.
  
  My question is.....
  
  What is the difference between a baptist yelling, screaming, and having a hissy fit over some man made rule..... in a prideful attempt to appear spiritual....... and some "tongue talker" trying to appear spiritual?

  i have always believed the gift of tongues was the ability to speak in your own language but be heard in the language of the person, or persons, you were speaking to.... ...i believe that is what the account of the day of pentecost in the scriptures describes.... .. but i am also aware that even back then there were people who sputtered vain babblings and gibberish either trying to convince people they had a gift they had merely heard about but never witnessed... ... or in some cases maybe even mocking those who really had it..... ... but either way i believe you are right........ .. there really is not much difference in that kind of exhibition and a hyper-fundy baptist screaming yelling and creating a spectacle... which in truth draws more attention to himself than it does to the things of God..... ...
