  I just read those words from a minister I check on from time to time.....
  
  While I agree, I don't agree with how the average Christian abuses this wondorous truth from God. 
  
  To get to where I'm going, I think I must ask this question....
  
  Just what can/do we control? 
  
  The answer will surprise you. Most of the time, a Christian say's "God is still in control" because THEY have made an absolute mess of what they had within their control. Granted, that is not always the case but I have to admit, I believe the vast majority of the times, we just mess up what's within our control. 
  
  I'm so glad that God rights our wrongs. Fixes the problems we make.... However, I think its prudent to wonder just how much better it would be if we just didn't mess it up to begin with!!!!
  
  Yes. God is in control! Praise God, He has never made a mistake. Never will. 
  
  Woe is me, my pain is often of my making. 
  
  I'm in control of so many things and I must do better.... for the Glory of God! HE... is with me. I can do all things through Him that strengthens me. Empowered and able. That is within every Christian's ability.

  i agree..... .. it;s a truth about God that christians often attempt to abuse for their own purposes ..... ....all too often when i hear someone say it - it comes off like an attempt to get themselves off the hook after they have totally messed things up.... ....and even worse.... when they have messed things up while arrogantly going against the sound advice of wiser people..... ..and if the result of their actions were especially horrendous they will sometimes throw in the kicker....... "well it;s probably all for the best anyway...."
  
  to the hard core calvinist with binary brain waves, who only sees in black and white.... what i;m about to say sounds like heresy.... ..... but all too often christians.... some of whom are not even calvinist.... look at the result of a situation where God allowed us to live with a mistake we made so we can learn from it - and assumes that end result was God;s intention all along..... that He decreed and ordained it all from the start...... from the mistake.... (or sin)... to the painful finish - they attempt to absolve themselves from responsibility by implying they could not have done anything different...... because... "God was in control........" ... and in their mind that phrase can only have one meaning...... what;s more, they will say that for us to think God could have known what we were going to do in advance .... (which nobody doubts)..... while wanting us to have done something better .... giving us every opportunity to do so...  but allowing us to have our will and learn our lesson anyway, is somehow misunderstanding the sovereignty of God..... 
  
  
  and... there is another statement - often spoken like a mantra..... that sometimes accompanies the misuse of a "God is in control" declaration that leaves me cringing every time i hear it..... "what doesn;t kill you makes you stronger...."...... whoever came up with that one obviously lived an idyllic life...... never got into a serious fight to the death.... and never suffered a disabling trauma or medical condition......  ... .....it;s true that what doesn;t kill us might sometimes make us stronger..... ....but it;s also true that things can happen to us with a result that falls far short of death but which leaves us permanently disabled and dependant on others for life...... ....
  
  i have argued that point with believers in that second mantra and asked them what they think of those who are permanently disabled and are now too weak to live or function without the help of others ...... and asked them to explain to me how those people fit into the idea of what doesn;t kill you makes you stronger..... and what they told me made me sick to my stomach..... ... they said that in a manner of speaking those people were killed by what happened to them ... and the life they live now is not really life...... it;s artificial, and might as well be death, because it;s a life supported and maintained by others..... .........some have even suggested support systems that benefit people in those conditions should be discontinued...... 
  
  that is not christian......  that is darwinism....... survival of the fittest only....  and it implies that we as humans with our finite minds can know what God sees as fit and worthy of life..... and to determine it through inaction or "allowing nature to take it;s course"..... as i have heard some say...... and strangely enough i have even heard that come from professing christians.......

  I agree with you, praise yeshua.  We often make our own trouble.  And it is remarkable that God, in His mercy, often either ameliorates our mistakes or takes away the negative consequences completely.  We should not take these blessings for granted!  Yes, God is in control, but unfortunately, He often has to work around us instead of through us!
  
  Aleshanee, yes, yes, yes!  “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger” and its cousin, “God never gives you more than you can handle” makes me want to vomit.  Both these statements are rubbish!
  
  I haven’t heard any Christian in my corner of the world take the stand that you have described, although I don’t doubt that you know what you are talking about.  To me, that smacks of Nazi philosophy.  Admittedly, I have not researched Darwinist philosophy as it pertains to the disabled human population, but I do know that the Nazis actively killed not only disabled people, but many other people groups, in addition to the Jewish population, for the simple reason that they were deemed “not worthy” to live.
  
  In any case, you are right.  That mindset is anathema to what Jesus taught.  Any so-called Christian who supports “survival of the fittest”, whether through overt action or by the passive withholding of critical care is no Christian at all.
