When praise is self serving.....

I read this quote recently.....
"There is tremendous relief in knowing that God's love for me is utterly realistic—based at every point on prior knowledge of the worst of me—so that no discovery now can disillusion God the way I am so often disillusioned about myself.” J.I. Packer
Religious Dogma should never get in the way of praising God.....
I almost replied with the following....
There is tremendous relief in knowing that God's love for me is utterly realistic, — based at every point on His darling Son Jesus Christ's Sacrifice and Capability to love me infinitely as He Loves Himself in Christ. Not me only, but all those who call upon His name.
The first reminds me of
Luk 18:9 He also told this analogy to those who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:
Luk 18:10 “Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.
Luk 18:11 The Pharisee, standing by himself, prayed thusly: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.
Luk 18:12 I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I acquire.’
Luk 18:13 But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’
Luk 18:14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified, rather than the other. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”
