I was listening to a Gaither song "Sometimes it takes a Mountain".......

Songs such as this are very popular. They are largely predicated upon the belief that God has ordained specific things in our lives to punish us into submissions. In other words.....
If God hadn't punished us, like He planned, then things wouldn't have happened they way they happened. So..... I have to praise God for the mountain.

Often verses such as 1 Thess 5:18 are referenced.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.....

However, that isn't really what this verse means. The context of 1 Thess 5:18 is prayer. Yes. We should give thinks for all things because there is nothing without God. Yet, that doesn't mean that we are to thank God for a "supposed mountain" He threw at us to get us on our knees.

I'm not saying there isn't a "mountain" coming your way or my way. What I am saying is there IS one coming and it doesn't have anything to do with God trying to punish you into submission.

Truth is, you and I can't help ourselves. AH.... there are times we can but this life is designed with obstacles that are beyond our control. I hope you realize that you need God every moment of every day. Every sec of your entire existence.

I believe it is BETTER to .........Thank for God being God........ and enjoy His never ending presence and help in your life. He enjoys being there with you. You should do the same. He can tell when you don't want Him there...

(my apologies in advance for any negative reactions my reply below might generate.... my opinions on ccm created firestorms on all the old forums... some of which are still burning...)

i generally can;t stomach ccm.... but i listened to a few minutes of this one to see what it was about... .and i totally agree with you... ..i know songs like this are very popular... ...but to me they are sappy and overly focused on the performer.... in the same way secular popular music focuses on performers and makes pop idols out of them...... . . ...but in addition to those things songs like this one are also unsound on christian doctrine.... ...but to most people listening to it that doesn;t matter coz it;s all about the performance anyway.. ...the experience of it... and the fact it;s labelled as christian.... .. ... and it gives them a warm fuzzy feeling to believe they have landed on an alternative to the unchristian music and performances of the world whether the lyrics are in line with doctrine or not... ......

yet, in my opinion ccm is not a good alternative... ...even when the doctrine is right the quality of the music in most of ccm wouldn;t even make it suitable for the b-side of the average secular popular music recording..... ...and instead of helping draw the world towards christianity, all it does it make them ridicule us all the more because while we tell them their ways are wrong we come off as trying to copy them..... .to be just like them.....

but anyway.... i realize that while ccm is very popular..... my beliefs on it are not.... so i won;t say any more..... but i will say i have no problem with most secular popular music.... .... as long as it;s not destructive, evil or created to inspire evil of some kind..... and as long as no illusions about it being "wholesome" are attached to it... ....it;s entertainment and nothing more.... ..but if the quality of it is lacking then i don;t find it entertaining... and i don;t listen to it... ...regardless of what the lyrics... if it has any... are good or not..

I largely agree with you about the "grandstanding" that takes place in most any Christian music performance today. I believe most of it exists regardless of the genre. However, CCM is probably one of the worst. I can remember good ole southern "gospel" music being a close second.

The issue is an old issue. When I think of the subject I'm reminded of what Jesus said.....

Luk 20:45 Then in the audience of all the people he said unto his disciples,
Luk 20:46 Beware of the scribes, which desire to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the markets, and the highest seats in the synagogues, and the chief rooms at feasts;
Luk 20:47 Which devour widows' houses, and for a show make long prayers: the same shall receive greater damnation.

It really doesn't matter if its a song, prayer or sermon. It is all about the "show".
