this concept is something i was introduced to in my first year of college..... one of my professors told the class that while people who graduated from college in the previous generation ..(or 20 years ago)..... could expect to find jobs much better than what those who simply graduated from high school could find..... that members of our current generation would most likely not be able to qualify for those same types of jobs......even with a 4 year degree...... ....he told us that post graduate education would be required to even be considered for most of those jobs and careers that a 4 year college degree would have qualified us for 20 years prior... .and which a simple high school education might have been good enough for in the 1960s or 70s.... .... ....... and he told us in the future this would only get worse....... .... he estimated that 10 from that point.... (or today in fact)....... several more years of post graduate work would be required to qualify for a career that we could have expected to go into.... even a masters degree.. ...
he told us the days of a work ethic minded person graduating high school, and fighting his way into a respectable job or career that paid a liveable wage, was over... ... he said just like the dollar in america was no longer worth as much as it had been 20 years ago - education had also been devalued..... and he called that phenomenon educational inflation.....
while i didn;t necessarily agree with that concept being a hard and fast rule... .... and still have some doubts about it.... i did not however manage to prove it wrong in my own endeavors for jobs and careers... .....maybe it;s true that my college education completed in 2006 was only equal in value to a high school education of 20 years prior..... ...but if that is indeed true then i would like to submit that this phenomenon of educaitonal inflation has not remained conisistent in that 10 years since i graduated college and has probably progressed at a much faster rate in the past 10 years than it did in the previous 20........ .
looking at what is going in colleges today.....and the way current college students are acting. .... and their aparent lack of emotional maturity.... ..with professors bringing crayons... play-dough ...and therapy puppies into class to comfort students who are distressed over our nations presidential election.... encouraging their students to wear diaper pins on their shirts as a show of political correctness and solidarity..... ...... .. i would say that the phenomenon of educational inflation has been rapidly accelerated since 2006..... and the value of high school... even with a couple of college years tacked onto it..... has deteriorated even more...... with the emotional maturity level donwgrading to the what a gradeschooler or first year middle schooler would have been expected to exhibit just a decade ago.... ..... .. .....
how are these people ever going to qualify for any kind of job, or learn to handle career level responsibilty? ...even if they manage 20 years of post graduate studies?.... ......at the rate they are going i don;t see it happening....... ever
we have all seen the concept of helicopter parenting .... once laughed at by most parents..... become the law of the land in many states... and we have seen parents who fail to hover over their children....or helicopter them....even as teenagers.... face criminal charges for neglect..... . ....even when those kids acted responsibly.... made it home safely and on time.... and did not get into trouble at all...... .......what is going on here?........ and how did it come to this?......
