i love this video.... and it gets a lot of comments on youtube as to why these
locomotives operating in china.. are throwing up these fountains of fire.....
a few commentors have said i tis because china is burning a very cheap and inferior grade of
coal which contains a lot of contaminants that prevents it from going through a complete and
efficient burn inside the firebox.... others said it looked like the train was burning "the souls of
the damned"...
...
....... but someone i know who actually remembers the days when steam locomotives ran on
the tracks in the united states said it was not uncommon for a locomotive in those days to throw
up a shower of sparks and even flame when it was pulling a heavy load up a steep hill... ..
the reason was that the operators ...(or firemen as they were called) shovelled extra coal into
the firebox prior to taking on such hills so the heads.... fed by steam from the boiler...
would build up enough to pressure to get the locomotive up the hill... ..(it;s where the phrase...
"pouring on the coal"... came from..) ..... that extra heat from the extra coal. combined with the
higher steam pressure, meant some coal would be blasted out the stacks and end up burning in
the smoke and steam plume above the train..... inferior coal just made that fireshow all the more
intense..... .... ....and if you understood all then you are way ahead of me when it comes to coal fed
steam engine dynamics.... .....(provided i even re-explained it all right...)
in some parts of the video you can actually hear short bursts of the wheels slipping and spinning
as they lose traction and the pistons start hammering away.... only to return to a normal cadence
when traction is restored..... .. pretty awesome..... would love to see something like this in person...
would love to just see a coal fed steam locomotive in operation period......

a dangerous and very deadly game that coyotes have been playing with farm
dogs for a couple of centuries now... .. involves sending 1 and sometimes 2 coyotes
in alone to alternate between acting agressive then running away in an attempt to lure
the dog into chasing them... ... few dogs can resist giving chase once a coyote approaches...
bares his teeth at them....and growls, then runs away....... . and once the dog gives chase
the coyote leads him off to where a much larger pack of coyotes is waiting to attack
the dog.... kill him.... and eat him... .. the dogs in this video are specifically trained to
chase only so far...and then to turn the coyotes game back around on them... ..forcing
the coyote to chase them.... and actually leading the coyotes within range of the hunters.. .
they are known as decoy dogs.... ...and they are very good at what they do.... ..
some of the hillarious antics coyotes perform when trying to lure dogs away to
their death, ... like jumping... spinning... even copying the dogs bark... causes some of
the more deluded animal rights activists to claim the coyotes are simply trying to
play with the dogs.... "coz they;re just innocent little dogs themselves trapped in a
coyotes skin"..... playful little creatures..... and that hunting them is wrong.....
..... .. but make no mistake..... animal rights activists are wrong...... those antics are all
just part of the clever tactis coyotes use to deliver dinner to their own table..... .. dinner
in the form of a fat tasty farm dog.... ..
......... personally i like farm dogs.... i;d rather see the coyote
take a dirt nap instead......
