it might surprise you to know i mostly agree with you about olympic archery.... ... but only the current olympic style of archery... .. (but then i would have a major problem with allowing lars andersons theatric archery too... .. no matter how well he could out prance his competition).. ..
..
however... .. i would love to see a TRADITIONAL INSTINCTIVE STYLE ARCHERY.... longbow and recurve both..... but with no sights or counter weights .... .no gadgets or aiming aids attached..... and no flags to show which way the wind is blowing.....
that is the kind of archery required to be a successful spot and stalk bowhunter.... ....... i think it would be instantly popular and get a much larger audience than the current form of olympic archery ..... coz for one the archers would be mobile ..(not prancing like lars...)... and have to shoot at running...
. ... or uhmmm moving targets.... 
i would even try out for that myself.....

you mean like in the rhythmic gymnastics?........ yeah.... i;d pay to see that one... as long as there were 2 competitors on the mat at the same time..... shooting at each other.... ...with rubber tipped non-lethal arrows of course.... and if they could grab an arrow out of the air and shoot it back all the better.... . . bonus points for that for sure..... ....but all other rules would have to apply.... they would still have to wear the obligatory tights.... and perform their gymnastic dance routine complete with the ribbon twirling and ballet style poses..... ..at the very least it might attract new talent to the sport... .... i bet even lars would be intersted in putting on a tu-tu and giving it a try... .....i doubt i would pay to see that though.... ..unless he could catch the arrows in his teeth....
but seriously.... i know someone who tried to grab arrows out of the air once.... .. a friend from the archry range, who insisted he knew how to do it... even from close range... coz he said he saw it on myth busters and figured out what they did wrong.... ..... ..... .but the archer he convinced to shoot at him insisted on being safe..... so the arrows were shot from 100 yards away..... .. and not directly at him either but just aimed at the big hay bail he was standing in front of.... he said catching arrows from 100 yards woud be a cinch coz they would be moving so slow by the time they got there....... .but we will never know if he could have done it ..... coz after failing to catch even 1 of over 20 arrows shot in his direction... the range master from the gun range... .. who actually has authority over all the ranges there, even though the archery range is left to govern itself. ....drove by and saw what was going on..... saw that somebody was shooting arrows with another person down range..... and made us...
.. ...i mean,... made all the participants of that activity stop.....
. .... ... . then threatened to ban them all from the range if they ever did it again..... ... .... (the arrows had rubber blunts on them...... what we call bunnybusters..... ..... but ..... that didn;t matter to the rangeboss)......
edit and side note.... the link below will show you a picture of the "bunny busters" the archers in question, were shooting at the range to see if a fellow goofball could catch an arrow .... but i don;t think they could be used for olympic competition coz even though they are blunt and made of rubber.. at closer ranges these things can break ribs... ....you should see what they do to a bunny rabbit or other small mammal... .. then again maybe you shouldn;t.... .it;s gruesome....

so....if you thought the olympic sport selection committee had gotten about as silly as it could ever get already.... .. you were wrong..... in december of 2020 they officially announced a new olympic sport that will debut in 2024.......
BREAK DANCING.....

and with that olympic committee announcement.. added to their inclusion of cheerleading this past year.... i also have to make it official.... ..i will now have to expand my list of top 10 dumbest olympic sports to a list of top 20... ... as i am certain they will come up with a few more in the near future, to fill in any gaps or brackets left behind......
so what is my analytical breakdown of... ahem.... break dancing?..... ... well.... let;s see.....
athleticism required?..... well.... ..one could say you do need flexibility.... as well as hard spots on various parts of the body.. especially the top of your head.... in order to endure all those slams and spins on hard concrete....
thrill factor?..... only for the immediate crowd of fellow perfor- ...ahem..."athletes"..., waiting for their chance to jump in and do their own break dance.. .. if this is to be authentic then will they be required to encircle the current performer to clap.. act out exaggerated gestures and body postures,...make gang signs with their hands... and jeer to the rhythm of overly loud and obnoxious rap music?.. ... ... . because at present all of those things seem to be requirements to not only make an authentic break dance experience, but also to inspire the person bouncing and spinning on the floor.... ..or sidewalk as the case may be.... ........ .. and then of course there should also have to be police officers waiting outside the crowd of those jeering and gesturing, patiently waiting to arrest the dancers for trespass and noise ordinance violatons in keeping with the usual progression of events that occurs at traditional break dancing exhibitions historically occurring on most city sidewalks.....
cheering crowd factor?.... will there be one?..... that remains a mystery to be resolved... i seriously don;t know anyone who enjoys watching break-dancing other than the encircling crowd of fellow dancers standing by and awaiting their chance... and of course shut in hip hop fanatics from the 80s who sit in their living rooms and watch re-runs of electric boogaloo on vcrs and vhs tapes that should have worn out long ago..... ..
edit... some people think i;m being too mean in my descriptions of the encircling crowd of waiting dancers and police officers that should be required for this event... .. but if you have ever witnessed break dancing occur on a city sidewalk then you know it never happens without both those things... ...without a crowd of fellow break dancers encircling them, clapping and jeering to rap music a solitary break dancer performing by himself is generally viewed as nothing more than a pedestrian who fell down on the sidewalk and is having trouble getting back up... .. and that lack of support from other dancers, and with no risk of being arrested..... plus the fact onlookers are frequently stopping to ask him if he is ok usually takes all the fun out of what he is doing and causes the break dancer to stop.... .... so.... ....we shall see what happens with this one.......
but on a side note.... ..with more and more places around the world legalizing marijuana.. .. this might be the first sporting event where doobies are passed out among the crowd rather then the traditional pop-corn and hotdogs....

with the introduction of skateboarding in this tokyo olympics, one my predictions
from a few years ago about what silly thing the olympic committees would do next
came true...
and they didn;t just introduce half pipe skateboarding either... they brought in
street skateboarding.... ..the official bad boy pass time of pre-teens and adolescents
all over the world......
and don;t get me wrong.... . i am very happy for these kids... and would never want to take
away their sense of victory and achievement... anyone who has tried this activity knows how
hard these young olympians worked for it.... ... ... ..
but what does it say about the direction the world is heading when an activity still associated
with trespassing and vandalism.... (and likely to get you arrested)... in virtually every city in the
world is suddenly turned into an olympic sport?....

they still haven;t learned yet... that they do better when more people see their work....
imagine those were the railings and set of steps leading up to your private business, which
you paid to install and just had freshly painted.... then imagine a lawyer showing up at your
door with a summons, trying to take you to court and sue you on behalf of parents of a kid
who gets injured trying to do a skateboard stunt on your railings... and claiming you are at
fault because you didn;t have the area properly secured so kids couldn;t acces it......
those things will be in the future for many a business owner... and also for city administrators
in charge of municiple buildings once kids who have seen this show cased in the olympics grab
their skateboards and take to the street.....
trust me.... i know things about bad boy culture and the way kids think... ..they have probably
already seen this and are on their way to the front of your business now......

STREET SKATEBOARDING..
so... .if you were tired of hearing the screeching and grinding of a skateboards wheels on concrete... .nauseated by the scraping sound of the wheel assemblies on handrails.... or being startled by the loud whacks and cracks of their skateboards hitting the pavement... .... ..and if you have found yourself suffering anxiety when walking down a sidewalk where skateboarders were doing their stunts, for fear they might lose control of the thing and let their board slam into your ankles.... .. or if you were just tired of seeing them out there altogether....... ...never fear... street skateboarding has come to your television screen and smart phone streaming service..... ....now you can have a whole new experience hating it on tv as well as in person..........
athleticism required?.... ...not sure about this... all i know is i was never able to do it... i know it must require flexibility.... a good sense of balance... and a body made of rubber so you can bounce back from the crashes that happen when those first 2 requirements fail you....
thrill factor?......for other skateboarders, certainly..... but for the rest of us the thrill usually comes in the form of brief ptsd remembering the last time we had to dodge one of things skittering towards us at high speed on the sidewalk... after the rider lost control.....
cheering crowd factor? ..... i actually don;t know how a crowd at the olympics will cheer for this.... as due to covid lockdowns there were no spectators at the event.... the news reporters and coaches that were there definitely cheered.....
in truth the jury is still out on this one.... ...it;s not certain yet if street skateboarding will be featured in the next olympics or when it might return......... but after watching all the coverage they had of it on tv so far i have a feeling a lot more safety gear will be required for the participants when it does... . i can imagine padding similar to what hockey players take to the ice in being required for this sport... in addition to the helmets partcipants under 18 are already required to wear....

* * and on an additional note..... there is already a specific type of bone fracture involving both bones in the distal wrist close to the hand associated with this activity, which is known in emergency rooms as the skateboard fracture... ..
previous to the skateboards rise in popularity this type of injury was known as the colles fracture... and occurs when a person attempts to stop a sudden fall by extending their arm and bracing themselves with their outstretched hand on the pavement... .often that results in the outstretched hand slapping the pavement with great force.... ... ... sometimes it works and all they get out of it is an abrasion on the heel of the palm.... but often both bones in the wrist... the radius and ulna.... snap in two about 2 to 4 inches above the hand.... ..

very painful... and all too common... and was also the inspiration many years ago for a specific piece of skateboard safety gear designed to be worn on the wrist and hand... and thus prevent that injury....... ......trouble is.... i didn;t see very many skateboarders at the olympics wearing them..... ..not even among the under 18 year olds.... .....
so i guess we shall see what happens.... as they say.......

if all the countries who say they are thinking of boycotting the 2022 winter olympics in beijing china actually do it... ..and they either pull their athletes from competition or the athletes stay home on their own.. .. then all of the sports in the olympics will be dumb this year..... ..... most of the top athletes from around the world won;t be there.... and so whatever games they have in beijing will be nothing but exhibitions of chinese..russian.. and athletes from nations too small and too intimidated by china to say no to them or get out from under their thumb..... just doing what they do with minimal competition... ... .
it;s a sad day when the love of conquest and politics takes precdence over friendly international competition and sportsmanship... ..but here we are.... the brave new world of the 21st century.. ..... and it;s dumb...
