Short white Swedish girl asks if people would accept the fact that she identifies as a man. As would be expected, they all think that's fine. Then she goes on to ask them what they'd think if she identified as Japanese. Or identified as 6'6" tall. Or identified as 7 years old.
Hilarity and hypocrisy ensues. "You don't look Japanese." "Do I look like a man?" "Scientifically speaking, you're not 6'6" tall or 7 years old." And so on...

i think it;s funny they didn;t have as much trouble seeing her as a male as they did seeing her as japanese......
consider this........ what if someone who looked exactly like she does..... with scandinavian features..... fair skin.. blonde hair - blue eyes and all.... had been born in japan?....
what if she had been raised completely immersed in japanese culture.... spoke japanese fluently and in fact spoke only japanese...... no other language..... and had never even been exposed to people from another place or culture?...... .....
some would say that under those conditions she would be more "japanese" than a young man of japanese ancestry who was born in the united states....who might have all the outward japanese physical characteristics.... but was raised completely immersed in american culture... .. spoke only english.... and had never even visited japan or met anyone else from the country of his ancestry... ...
and then of course there are those hard core "purists" in both countries that will never accept him as anything but japanese, or her as anything but gaijin no matter where they were born or what they have been raised to see themselves as.....
i;m not defending the case for selective self identification as something one is not or was not born as...... and i think men who try to walk into the ladies restroom claiming they self identify as women need to be kicked in the n.... ......ummmm...... never mind....
..... ... .... but i am just saying..... it;s true... and can be stated as fact... that some aspects of our being such as height and numerical age are cold equations...... and even gender is for the most part...... (discounting birth defects).... ..... but that doesn;t mean everything else always is.....
some things really can have more to do with what one believes they are within.. or what they were raised and taught to believe they were.... rather than how they look on the outside..... not saying that is always a valid argument..... and being willing to tell it like it is might be an honorable and desirable thing...... but labeling others based on outward appearance can be taken too far.........
just offering a different perspective to it.......

Good points, aleshanee. What I thought was funny was that when it came to things like being Japanese, or 6'6" or 7 years old, THAT was difficult for them to accept because... science, and she doesn't LOOK Japanese!
But when it came to identifying as male, science or looks or measurements didn't count. It's how she FEELS that counts. Sorry, folks, it's really easy for science to determine if you're a male or female. How you feel doesn't have any affect on that, even if you make yourself look like the opposite gender. And that would be true if she had surgery to make herself look Japanese, and dyed her hair black.
But, as you say, if she grew up in Japan and Japanese was her native language and culture, then she WOULD be Japanese, even though she doesn't look it. So that's a tougher one to call. It's not so tough to call when it comes to pretending you're 6'6" or 7 years old. -

So with all this insanity as to what bathroom transgenders should use, how long will it be before urinals are installed in women's restrooms / locker rooms etc??

in my opinion?........ never!............ and if they ever do install them in a ladies room then any man caught in the ladies room peeing in one of them is a man who should definitely get kicked in the anatomical apendages required to even make use of such a device possible ..... .... ..... .. seriously... just the fact any man ... or transgender.... would be able to use one of those things should blow the lid off his claim that he self identifies as female in the first place.. ...
but then again..... like i said before....... the time for all public restrooms to be modified and converted into a set of smaller private restrooms is long over due....... anyone of any gender or level of alternate identity, entering a restroom should be able to lock a door behind them...... ..... nobody with any sense of decency wants to see them any more than they should want to be seen....... .... and it;s not just a privacy issue... .... it;s also a safety issue..... ....... and that safety assurance goes both ways....

It would be anathema to me to see urinals in the ladies room. If anatomical men are to be allowed in the ladies room (and vice versa) private restrooms are the only way to go (no pun intended
). As I see it, it's the only way to satisfy all of the issues.
To take things a bit further down the road, if a man wants to "be a woman", let him act like a woman. Please excuse me for being indelicate, but it's one thing for a man to sit down and pee into a toilet, which is totally doable and probably not all that unnatural, especially when combined with the need to do #2...and having to squat behind a bush. It's the rare woman who hasn't "sprinkled" a cute pair of shoes due to the lack of adequate restroom facilities. -

which is just one of the reasons my hunting boots are never worn into the house.....
