The "bully pulpit" in church.....

The average persons in power in the local church are extremely afraid to engage in any in-depth discussion concerning the doctrines of Christianity. I've engaged these types of people to only be shutdown by "whatever means necessary." I've been hit, punch in the face, and threatened along the lines of "I don't know what I'd do if you cause problems"...... Ultimately what begins as "we really enjoy you being here" to.... "you don't belong here".
All because I've disagreed with them on what they teach. Sure. They'll be okay as long as you don't tell someone else and keep your comments to yourself, but what good is that? If you're not capable of having a sincere, in depth discussion concern the important doctrines of Christianity.....
Then you don't belong in any position of power!
My wife has often fussed at me because she sincerely believes I'm going to get hurt simply because I ask a question or say I'm not buying what you're selling.... She says I have a "way of making people mad at me".....
I can see her point, but it really is a sad day when you can't question what someone says in church without being threatened.
The power of the "bully pulpit" is very real in the local church. People will protect it at ALL cost. People have to appear perfect in what they say or their "image" is tarnished and they just can't lose this "power" they weld over others.
Sad..... horribly sad.....
