My little sister and her ex-husband went to this college! Some of you may have known them. I always liked this college, and almost transferred there myself. But, the Lord had other plans. Did any of you attend here? I only went there for one year.  I had intended to go back for the fall semester of 83, but my family moved from Pekin, IL to Augusta, GA, and I ended up without funds to go. I had a job that was pretty good, so I decided I would stay out and go back the next year. I was engaged to a graduate (1983) of MBBC, but she went back home to Michigan, and our engagement didn't survive the long-distance and time away from each other.  I love this university. I made some wonderful friends there, including my best friend who pastors a church in Pana, IL, and his wife. It's been nearly 40 years, but we're as close today as we were in college.   Glad to be here... Posted by: aleshanee - 10-27-2021, 12:31 PM - Forum: Technology Forum - No Replies arrow making... i learned these skills many years ago... and while i haven;t practiced it in a long time i still have a whole box of flint and obsidian arrow heads i made from scratch.... plus also around 150 pounds of flint and obsidian in large chunks anywhere from the size of a small book to a shoe box.... all of which came from somewhere else since those types of stone don;t exist on this volcanic island...... today i prefer to make arrows using modern hand tools, and also using nice straight pieces of cedar lumber cut in a mill.... which i then cut down further and shape into arrows.... even better is pre-cut arrow shafts bought from a supplier which are already weighed and spine tested... and of course feathers in bulk straight from a turkey farm which they heat sanitize so they can be shipped and bag up by the gross.... but i still make all my arrows by hand.... and without the use of power tools or machinery.. ....playing with modern high tech computers and devices is enjoyable.... but if you really want to learn or sharpen some skills that will be rewarding in a way modern technology cannot... try your hand at the primitive technology that our ancestors used for survival... it will not only give you a new found respect for them.... but also help build new confidence in yourself...  one day modern technology will fail... ..all of it... and the refined materials we so rely on to keep the high tech machines of today working will become hard if not impossible to find ... .but even before that happens other things that could temporarily throw us back into primitive conditions could happen.... and we could find ourselves forced to rely on only what we can do with our bare hands to survive...... things like that happen to people all the time... and are the basis for all the survival shows on tv and the internet.... most of which are fake and a few of which are downright silly.... . but all of them should make us ask ourselves one simple question......  how would we fare in a world like that?.... how well would you do in it? ..   anti-vax and never maskers...... Posted by: aleshanee - 10-18-2021, 07:36 PM - Forum: The Fighting Forum - Replies (11) as if anyone in the fundamentalist...or fff world... cares to read what i have to say.... ...i am going to take a chance and say it anyway..... ..i believe in vaccines..... ...i believe in the general effectiveness of the covid-19 vaccines... ..and not just because president trump supports them... and also not just because i live in a medical household of which everyone is vaccinated.... and also not simply because i have a degree in a medical biology myself either.... ...i believe in vaccines because of what i have learned through studying the way diseases... specifically pandemic diseases... have affected various groups of people in the past.... how inoculation through either vaccines or other natural means protected them.... and by seeing what happened to various populations who remained un-vaccinated.. or otherwise unprotected..... ...... yes there are risks involved with taking a vaccine... there are risks involved with taking any medication.....  which is why... while i support vaccines... ..and i also support an employers right and a schools right to require vaccinations for employees... staff... and students....... .... i do not support blanket vaccine mandates for every citizen of a country laid down by governments.... .. the exception to that would be anyone wishing to immigrate to or otherwise enter the country. .... first of all i believe all entry into our country should be done legally or not at all.... . and i also believe anyone entering should be required to show proof of vaccination against not only covid19 but a host of other diseases and contagious health problems as well..... that includes citizens of the u.s. that wish to exit the country and then re-enter... .... ....but i realize those are just my opinions now as far as masks go.... . i do fully support mask mandates... ordered by government according to law as prescribed in an emergency or epidemic situation.... for anyone going out in public where they will be in close proximity of others... ... and then even after a government relaxes such a mandate i support the right of employers... private businesses... and schools to require masks be worn by employees... staff members.. students and also customers coming into their business... ...... ....anti-maskers like to say it;s a matter of their personal freedom and personal rights not to wear a mask... and i agree....... ..but it;s also a matter of the rights of a business owner, or administrator of a school to require masks be worn by anyone wishing to come in to that school, or business, and make use of it;s services.... ..... ...we all have a right not to wear a mask if we don;t want to... and that includes not wearing a mask out in public when we are all by ourselves...... . but we don;t have the right to force other people to deal with us face to face if we are not wearing a mask. .. ..... masks work....  they do not always work perfectly and eliminate all risks.... but they are effective in reducing risks.... those in the medical field have known this since the late 1800s.... Not too much but it did happen. Since then, these same people have been trying to get in here. Posted by: aleshanee - 09-21-2021, 03:53 AM - Forum: Technology Forum - Replies (1) the last one i bought was the nintendo game cube... and it worked great until this past week..... i used it more in the past 2 years than all the previous i can;t even rmember how many years i have owned it....  it;s one of the ways i have been surviving the multiple lock downs of this pandemic.... .....but now.... when i turn it on.... i get a chime and a message that there is no game disk in the machine... ... but there is a game disk in the machine..... . the lazer lens is just not reading it..... plus i also don;t think the disk turner is spinning either.....  but anyway..... i looked online and apparently this is a common problem with the nintendo game cube once it gets old.... .it has an adjustable resistor deep in the heart of the works, that regulates the amount of ohms.... (whatever those are).....  that flows into the turning and reading devices..... i found multiple youtube videos that show in precise detail... step by step... how to disassemble the machine... measure the ohms... and make an adjustment...... it;s going to be like performing machine surgery... and i have to order specialized tools that fit all the weird nintendo only screws.... ... but i am going to do this....  .....i have to do this....... ....or else buy a new nintendo of a newer model.... (which i have not heard good things about)..... so.. i am studying these videos until i can repeat the process in my sleep....  and i am going to begin when the tools come in.....  i once took a course at community college on advanced bicycle repair... plus bought all the books and tools required.... so i would be able to maintain and repair my own bicycles.... . so i do know a little about turning nuts and bolts.... ....and we already have a diagnostic machine in the automotive tools box that can read ohms...... a few of them actually of different sizes...... so we will see what happens........ ....... more to follow............... . Posted by: aleshanee - 09-13-2021, 06:17 PM - Forum: Technology Forum - Replies (3) there is no evidence in the historical record that any such command was ever given to archers in combat at any time in history.... .if you have ever drawn and shot a traditional bow powerful enough to be effective in warfare, then you know why the whole "nock.. draw.. hold... loose.." scene,.. ...(made popular by the movies)... is nothing but fantasy.. and not even based on ancient or classic mythology .. .. it;s an image totally invented by hollywood in the 20th century for nothing more than dramatic effect.... and never occurred in any real battle... or even archery practice prior to hollywood.... but i suppose it;s useful if you want to video what being downrange with a volley of arrows coming at you looks like... you only have a small handful of archers... and none of them can hit the target consistently enough to keep the desired "rain of arrows" effect, coming into the camera without some kind of command being given to make certain they all shoot together... hoping a few of them will hit the target at the same time.... and he did make that point clear in the video.....   the evolution of joe biden.......
