still doing the job after nearly 5 decades....and likely to find itself bearing the brunt
of the job well into the future..... the F-15 eagle shows it;s worthy of it;s name....
F-35 vrs F-22?.... ...combat simulation indicates it would be a very short contest......
with all the talk in the news about new fighter jets... the stealth bomber and the old b-52
..people sometimes forget about the b-1.... i saw one of these at hickham afb a few years
ago... it;s a lot bigger than most people realize... and faster then anything else it;s size...
uss carl vinson and hms queen elizabeth in joint operations... western pacific....
the fliegerschiessen is a live fire air combat show put on by the swiss air force.... and held
every october at axalp in the swiss alps.... last year it was cancelled due to the covid-19
pandemic..... but this year it is back...... ....and now they have f-18s.!....
so.... when i first started this thread it was mostly about vietnam era fighter pilots
who flew the f-4 phantom in combat... there are a few videos there in first 2 pages talking
about rescue operations of those same pilots if ever shot down...
but what would a pilot do if rescue was delayed and he ended up spending a few days in
the jungle?..... what kind of gear did the navy and air force outfit a pilot with that could
help him survive until rescue arrived? ...... ..this video opens up and shows what;s inside an
actual survival kit that would have been fitted into the pockets on a pilots flight suit who
was flying a jet like the f-4 phantom over vietnam in 1968...
as an extra edit to this.... ..if you have seen some of the other videos from this youtuber
then you know that these combat pilot survival kits were all unique to the time period and
also to the are of operation that a pilot might expect to have to survive in... were he to be
shot down or have to abandon his aircraft....... .....different survival kits... while always
containing a few of the same items... (basic bandages... antiseptic.. etc).... would also
contain vastly different other objects... and omit some of the others.... .... survival kits
might also be packed according to how long a downed pilot could expect to be on the
ground before a rescue crew got to him.... ..
i have my own personal survival kit i keep in my hunting back pack.... it;s packed to help
me survive as long as i would have to if i was on foot, deep in the mountain rainforest
and somehow got cut off from returning to camp... being a bowhunter i carry more
supplies geared toward control of bleeding.. even a small suture kit... along with a
few things that didn;t exist in 1967... ... most of the modern survival kits made for
combat pilots carrying those newer items as well......
by contrast.... here is break down and examination of the survival evasion resistance and
escape kit that a combat pilot flying an f-16... f-15... a-10...and other aircraft over iraq
and afghanistan would carry in the pockets of his flight suit.....
though some of the basic components are the same... the others are vastly different due
to the fact the desert environment they could expect to survive in was vastly different...
and also there are a few handy, very useful things in here that didn;t exist in the 1960s
i just learned that the f-35 has another nickname... besides the one i heard a few years
ago... (flying potato).. ......non f-35 fighter pilots are now calling it Fat Amy....
here an actual fighter pilot ...in digital combat similation...takes on an f-35 in an old
f-14a tom cat... iranian version.. ...kinda makes me wonder if the u.s. didn;t retire the
much beloved f-14 a little too early........
instresting talk coming out of russia about their newest fighter jet, which will debut at
an upcoming airshow.... will it be a match for the f-22 raptor?... russia claims it will...
