just one of the many reasons military fighter aircraft had to become increasingly
more sophisticated...... and as these surface to air antiaircraft systems become
more advanced in the future, military fighter aircraft will have to become even
more sophisticated still... to avoid being shot down by them.......
one of the interesting features about these new types of systems is they are
completely automatic..... meaning no human has to actively operate it.... from the
moment these systems are armed and turned on their radar continually scans the sky....
... if their radar sees an enemy aircraft... a computer evaluates whether or not it is a
threat to the ship.... and if it is deemed dangerous the machinery goes into action on it;s
own... targets the aircraft and shoots it down......

and here is another close in weapon system mainly designed to shoot
down incoming anti-ship missiles ...... but it is also highly effective
against aircraft that present a threat when close to the ship... and
can also be used against small but hostile surface craft........
in order for modern aircraft to avoid being shot down by systems such as these... and other systems even more advanced... those
aircraft have to be able to avoid being seen by the systems radar..... that requires very expensive technology and expensive materials
go into each aircraft..... all with the knowledge that the next generation of advanced anti-aircraft systems could make it all obsolete....

known as 5th generation fighters..... the f-22 and the f-35 are the newest u.s.
air superiority fighters which incorporate the kind of stealth technology required
to even have a chance of surviving the aerial battle theatre of todays warfare.....

the f-4 phantom that general robin olds flew had the distinction of being a
multirole fighter.... meaning it was fully capable in the air superiority role and
also capable in the ground attack role...... but it also had the distinction of
being the last fighter aircraft used in both of those roles by all 3 branches
of the u.s. military that operates fighter aircraft..... the air force... the navy
and also the marines..... ....
the new f-35 lighting.... like it;s ancestor the f-4 phantom... is also planned to be a
multirole fighter.. ..... but it;s also scheduled to serve with all 3 branches of the military operating
fighter aircraft...if successful it will be the first fighter since the f-4 phantom to do so.....in this video
the f-35 is seen undergoing the rigorous sea trials mandatory for any aircraft that is intended to be
operated from an aircraft carrier.....

before production finally came to a halt in 1981... 5195 f-4 phantoms had been built..... making it the most prolific of all u.s. military supersonic
fighters.... .... it is doubtful that the production of f-35 lightnings will ever be close those numbers..... or even a respectable fraction of them.......
but it will nonetheless be expected to perform up to standards.. and become the workhorse for all 3 branches of the u.s. military that operates
combat fighter aircraft.... just like it;s ancestor the f-4 phantom did...... ..big shoes to fill considering the history of the f-4 phantom...... ...
..........only time will tell if the stealthy f-35 is up to the task.......

the following video is the actual cockpit recordings of communications between
f-4 phantom pilots in vietnam when one of the aircraft in their flight was shot
down by a surface to air missile..... from the sounds of it one can gather there was
very little time to react once they realized a surface to air missile had locked onto them....
it;s a rather chilling recording to listen to... and the listener should be warned there are
a few words they might find offensive.... .... but this tape illustrates a small portion of the
reality actual combat pilots faced in vietnam and what todays pilots still face in warfare.....

in another thread we are discussing reasons for leaving... or bailing out of.... a church....
nobody disagrees that there are legitmate reasons to bail out of a church.... and that
failure to do so could be detrimental to both you and to your family..... ... but could the
timing involved in executing the decision to bail out also be a critical factor?..... is it
possible to stay in a church too long even after you have decided that if things don;t
improve you will be forced to leave?....
after an alarming increase in the number of bail out deaths from military jets in the
late 1970s... which investigators found should have been survivable... ... the u.s. air force
conducted a study and determined that too many pilots were staying in doomed aircraft
and delaying the decision to bail out until it was too late..... for most it is believed they
thought the aircraft was savable or that their situation would improve..... mere seconds
were often all that made the difference between a pilot that survived and made a sucessful
bail out and one who did not.... ......
do christians also sometimes stay in bad churches just a little too long?... knowing they should
leave but delay the decision to the point where irrepairable damage is done to them or their
families?. ....... can lessons and principles taught by the air force to pilots of doomed aircraft
by applied to the christian who finds him/ or herself remaining longer than they should in a bad
or corrupt church?.......
check out this awesome and very informative video made by the u.s. air force
to use as part of pilot training.......
